Wilson’s Shelter
“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight or our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”  James 1:27
For those of you who have been keeping up with our website you have read about Wilson. He manages a ‘shelter’ of approximately 50 orphans, elderly and disabled. They range in the ages of 5-80+.  They continue to stay and sleep under the thatched roof gazebo.  The people have various health problems; blindness, disability from aging or birth defects, parasites, dehydration, diarrhea etc. AFDC provides the funds monthly for Wilson to have food for all these people. The food consists of beans, rice, pasta, bread, juices, evaporated milk, seasonings, canned meats, at times a goat.  It costs about $400.00/month to provide two meals a day. However, since the past hurricanes and in 2018 the political uprisings, the price of food has increased considerably.  The $400.00/month has fed them one good meal a day for the past few months.  AFDC also sends 30 of the children to school at a cost of $100.00/month where they receive a meal.   We provide $50.00/month for a cook.  She prepares the meal or meals with the food that AFDC provides and helps with laundry.  At times she has been known to give Wilson her pay so the children will have enough food. AFDC continues to look for individuals and/or groups/churches to give monthly so that we can increase the amount of food we send so they can have 2 meals a day. We, have provided funds to have some of the children treated at the local clinic.  We had 9 children treated for typhoid last fall.  Diseases can spread very quickly when you have that many people living under one roof. IMPORTANT! Wilson is in need of replacing a few small buildings that were damaged in the last few hurricanes.  We are currently working on plans to build one big building they can use for shelter and storage.  Please note the pictures available.  If you are interested in helping with Wilson’s Shelter, please go to our Ministry Needs page and give to any of the needs listed. The most valuable thing anyone can do for Wilson’s group is PRAYER!  Pray for health; spiritual and physical, safety through the various weather challenges that come.
